Registered Dietitian, Alexandra Oppenheimer

Alex believes in a real-life approach to improving nutrition status. She insists there is no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” approach to wellness and treats everyone as unique individuals, tailoring her recommendations to fit their specific needs and goals. Alex also strives to cut through the misconceptions surrounding registered dietitians being judgmental and strict with food rules or diet perfection. While she promotes optimal nutrition, she encourages cooking and eating enjoyable foods—they do not have to be opposing concepts. Yes, she too eats pizza and baked goods (guilt-free), because sometimes these are the foods that fit, in moderation. She believes we live in real life and we have to figure out how to live healthfully in it, and she is here to help. As a go-to nutrition resource, Alex has been quoted in Cosmopolitan and on many websites including GLAMOUR, SHAPE, iVillageGalTime and Food Network’s Healthy Eats Blog

Alex is a Registered Dietitian (RD) with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition at New York University. She completed a year-long, clinically-focused dietetic internship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Rhode Island (URI) with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics with a Minor in Kinesiology. Alex also received the President’s Award for Student Excellence at URI. Alex is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (previously the American Dietetic Association) and the Nutrition Entrepreneurs dietetic practice group.

Alex provides nutrition counseling and education, corporate wellness, writing, and consulting services. She is currently a Registered Dietitian at Pollock Communications, a New York City-based food and wellness public relations agency. Past positions include work as registered dietitian at Manhattanville College’s Student Health Center and a consulting dietitian for CalorieCount.com (About.com) and Blythedale Children’s Hospital’s Eat Well, Be Well Nutrition Outreach Program. Past consulting projects include writing website content and facilitating the creation of Café Metro’s “100 Under 500” Calorie Menu. Alex is passionate about cooking and baking healthfully while utilizing seasonal and local ingredients whenever possible, and focuses on nutrition communications, especially in the utilization of social media outlets. She is based in Westchester County, New York and provides writing and consulting services virtually.
